Ideal for the price
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I use this with a Yamaha PSR-275. This pedal is ideal, given the limitations of a PSR-275 vs acoustic versions. Buy this if you are a beginner or are looking for something low priced.

Electric Piano Keyboard Pedal
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this pedal for a used Yamaha PSR-500 keyboard that I got at an auction. The pedal works fine with the keyboard, providing the ability to sustain the notes just like a regular piano pedal. I’ve had no problems with it at all.

Yamaha FC4 pedal — authentic as can be
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I love my Yamaha FC4 foot pedal. I use it with my DGX-620. I have it alongside an FC5 foot switch, and believe me, the two of them just don’t complement each other.
I have used this pedal with my other keyboards, and found that it really replicates the functionality of a real piano pedal. If I had my way, I’d get rid of the FC5 and upgrade it to another FC4.
If you have a keyboard that supports a pedal, this is the pedal you need.

Can’t use with Casio Piano!
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Granted, I’m a stupid consumer, but I assumed manufacturers would use the same signal-conventions for a simple accessory like a sustain pedal. I was wrong.
I gave this product a 2-star rating only because it didn’t work with my piano, but the FC4 seemed like a very nice pedal (very sturdy!). It had the opposite signal needed for my Casio CDP-100 (opposite meaning the Yamaha is ‘open contacts on sustain’, and the Casio wants the contacts closed on sustain).
So, owners of non-Yamaha pianos beware! Confirm that your piano will work with this pedal before buying.
For my Casio, I bought an M-Gear SP-2 Sustain Pedal. It’s working fine, and seems to have the same look-and-feel as the Yamaha.

Great product; needs documentation?
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We got a Yamaha DGX-230 and the FC4 floor pedal for Christmas. My son recently started lessons, and he and my wife reported that when they tried to use the FC4, it didn’t work, and they had disconnected it.
I plugged it in and tried it, and indeed, it was backwards. When it wasn’t pressed, it sustained. When it was pressed, it didn’t. There was no polarity or mode switch.
However, after about 20 minutes of Googling, I found an online PDF of the model 220 owner’s manual that contained this snippet:
“Make sure that the footswitch plug is properly connected to the SUSTAIN jack BEFORE turning on the power.”
It turns out I hadn’t bothered to turn off the DGX-230 before plugging it in. When I followed the instructions, everything worked fine.
I also noted this caution as well:
“Do not press the footswitch while turning the power on. Doing this changes the recognized polarity of the footswitch, resulting in reversed footswitch operation.”
So, although the FC4 apparently doesn’t have a polarity switch, the DGX-230 can switch its OWN polarity.
Other models of course may work differently.
So far I’m quite pleased with both Yamaha products and I’m impressed with the thought Yamaha has put in to them.

Perfect, works nicely and stays in place.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Works with most keyboards using a 1/4 plug. It’s weighted so it stays put in one place, which is great.

Great Pedal
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The sustain pedal that comes standard with the Yamaha electric pianos are definately lacking. There’re small, light and don’t feel quite right. The FC-4 has a good all around feel, more like a true piano pedal. It’s also heavier and won’t move around the floor while playing. Well worth the money.

Great

What can I say. It’s a foot pedal. It works just like it is supposed to. Delivery was quicker than I expected.

I’ve had to return this item twice now because it sustains notes when the pedal is not depressed and does not sustain when pedal is depressed. I have a casio keyboard and I don’t know if that has anything to do with it, but I haven’t been pleased with this purchase.

Stopped working after five months
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I was happy with this pedal until it just stopped working one day, almost five months exactly from day I ordered it. It completely stopped sustaining notes, pressing on it had no effect. I checked over and over again to make sure it was plugged in and everything. I practice 30-45 minutes a day, I didn’t use it every single day but pretty often. I’m disappointed, I thought it would last longer. Instead of ordering another one, I went with the M-Audio SP-2 which so far is working just fine. Hopefully I won’t be on here again saying the same thing about that one.

Good Universal Pedal
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Works Great. It does have a switch on the bottom to change the polarity, so should work with any keyboard you throw at it.

Unhappy in Michigan
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I actually read and appreciated all of the reviews posted here before ordering this sustain pedal for my Yamaha keyboard and was convinced that it would be what I needed. When it arrived I was pleased with the weight and feel of the pedal.
Unfortunately, like another reviewer’s experience, my pedal worked exactly backward…the sustain is always “on” until the pedal is depressed.
I could understand the possibility of this happening if I was trying to use this pedal on a keyboard built by a different manufacturer, but both the keyboard AND the pedal were the Yamaha brand.
I’ve chalked up this experience to bad luck this time… and have ordered another Yamaha pedal from Amazon. I will return to post a review of the next outcome.

Satisfied

Arrived on time and in condition described. No problems with it. Sounds really good and turns the keyboard into more of a “real piano” in sound and feel.

Excellent Value for the Price
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased this item for our Yamaha Keyboard. It works great and feels very much like a regular piano pedal. I don’t think you can beat the quality for the price I paid.

Not for all pianos
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I had to return this item because it wouldn’t work with my piano. It states in the description that it is for all pianos but it worked backwards on mine. It should have a polarity switch like most other models.

Doesn’t Work
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Obviously the item shipped to me was wired incorrectly and they don’t make them ALL like this- or else the other reviews would be bad. The pedal shipped to me has crossed wires. With no pedal pressed, the sustain is ON, with the pedal pressed, the sustain is OFF. Totally backwards. I am mostly annoyed because i got the super(slow)saver shipping and waited two weeks to get a crappy pedal that i have to ship back- and then wait another few weeks. Yay.

Adds realism…
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This adds a bit of realism to playing a portable keyboard – my wife loves it! There is a basic plastic version that would suffice (for about half the cost) – but this model is more realistic, quite well made and has the heft to stay where you put it. I suspect the cheap version would scoot around on the floor while being used. Do check to make sure it is compatible with your particular keyboard before ordering….
