I just started piano lessons and picked this keyboard up on sale. My teacher recommended the Yamaha over Casio for better sound and reliability, so I took her advice and picked this up as an entry-level practice keyboard. The sound is excellent (to my untrained ears at least), there are lots of useful features, and you really can’t beat the price. Its built-in teaching aids have been VERY useful to me as I learn, especially the display that shows the note you’re playing along with the key you’re pressing. I recommend this keyboard to any beginner without hesitation.

love this keyboard

i have been searching for a decently priced keyboard that isn’t cheaply made and has a piano-like feel. this is that keyboard! i read a lot of reviews and found that this one seemed to have most of what i wanted. the only thing it doesn’t have, which i didn’t find important is a record button. it does have piano lessons, a lot of songs to choose from, a ton of sounds and styles to play with, full size piano keys, its own speakers and a built in metronome. the only thing is lacks is its own power adaptor. i was actually going to order this on amazon and saw it for $79.99 at best buy, the power adaptor was $9.99, also at best buy. so other than the price on here, i love this keyboard!

Great way to start learning…

Untill few weeks back I was an absolute ‘monkey with a piano’, I decided to take some lessons and my teacher recommended me a Yamaha with a metronome. I grabbed this one from a local Circuit City and I’ve been quite pleased with it since then.
Pros:
- Nicely priced
- Keys feel good when pressed (doesn’t feel like cheap plastic)
- Built in metronome (you need it if you are new to piano/keyboard)
- Decent display that can display the musical notations as you play along
- Great learning features with lots of inbuilt songs (keys are displayed on the screen as you play along – works at your speed and can be split into either right or left hand or both – nice way to learn)
- Around 370 built in voices
- 61 keys (enough to start practicing with)
- DVD included which tells about basics of this piano (features of this piano NOT how to play)
- Light weight if you want to carry it around
- Input for sustain pedal (need to buy it separately)
–Overall nicely designed with other features)
Cons:
- Doesn’t sound like piano but then I’m just learning
- You cannot control loudness/softness, I mean in a piano if you strike a key softly the sound produced will be different from when you strike the same key hard (loud), in this Yamaha there is no such distinction, sound produced is always the same irrespective of the way key is pressed (this should not matter much to a beginners)
- Power adapter not included, you need to buy it separately
- Notes(music) for inbuilt songs are not included, it would have been very nice if you can have them – makes practicing easier.
Overall, this is a nice keyboard for beginners but as you practice along and you are serious about learning you will outlive its usability and may need to upgrade to higher model or a piano
…. but if are a beginner like me look no further.

‘Alfred Basic Adult Piano Course Level 1″ with CD…..great book for beginners.. good luck

I personaly think that this keybored piano is fantastic, its easy to use, it has many cool voice’s and songs, and it made it MUCH easyer for Me to learn “Fure Elise”, i was VERY satisfied by this product.

Great for beginners…

I had this keyboard for 3 weeks. It helped me learn and start to play the piano. It’s a great item for the price. However if you’re serious about learning how to play the piano… this keyboard is very limiting. I had to replace it after 3 weeks… but ya if you’re just playing the piano as a hobby then it’s great. It makes a great gift to your friends/family.

This keyboard has clear and loud speakers with lots of different functions, more than enough for beginners. I gave it four stars because I had to buy the adapter separately. other than that this is very nice.

Pretty much agree with the other 5 and 4 star reviews, Definitely not for pro’s but good for beginner who expects to progress pretty fast or an intermediate player who can’t spare the extra $$$ during these hard times:
Pro:
Good (not great) Sound: way better than the piece of junk I had from the 80s
Cheap!
takes AA batteries (I don’t know what is typical now a days, but my old keyboard took C’s or D’s dont remember)
Got two big boxes for my cats to play in
Cons:
Remember to buy an AC adapter
Volume resets to really loud every time you turn it on.

Good for beginners

This is a great keyboard for a beginner.
61 keys is all they’ll need. There is no action on the keys, but then, for a beginner, that isn’t too important. Like all Yamahas the sound is very good. It is a great product for the price, however if you are planning to go prof. on the piano I would suggest finding a keybord with weighted keys.

Good for Beginners

This keyboard would be wonderful for learners like the other reviewers have stated. Being someone who took countless years of lessons and is used to a real piano, this does not compare. I borrowed another yamaha keyboard before getting this one and i noticed a lot of differences.
Pros-
The fun sounds are great, it has a lot of songs and special voices, but the only one i really will ever use is grand piano. I found the ability to change the metronome’s time signature difficult to figure out without the manual, but was very glad that i could do it. i really love that feature to help keep me on the perfect beat system every time.
Cons-
i hate that all the defaults reset every time you turn the power off. i cannot STAND that the volume always defaults to loud. I wish it had a turn-knob to set the volume reasonably and ready for use when you turn it on. Also, the reverb is automatically on. At first use, i thought the keyboard had a crappy tinny sound that echoed, but it was the fault of the reverb being on… which is a default. It also does not come with an ac adapter. Who wants to buy 6 batteries at a time for this monster? Another con starts with the fact that this keyboard has 102 songs in it. The problem is… the list is on page 20 of the manual. I wish they would have included a card with them listed on it or printed them right on the keyboard like on past models. If i am looking for a song i’m not going to pull out the manual nor flip through 102 intros to find it. This is the same for reverb types and voices which are listed on various pages of the manual.

Great for learning

I got this keyboard for learning and it’s been holding over well. One thing I don’t like is the speaker quality. When I have my headphones on it sounds better, I practice, practice, practice and then when I want to play for someone, i feel embarrassed with how it sounds…. and I don’t mean my playing.
Also, which isn’t a big deal and has become part of my routine in powering it on, is the volume. I always need to lower the volume at every start up. If it had memory lock of where it was at last that would be nice.
It’s a great price & it’s good for a beginner though so I can’t complain!

We haven’t opened this yet, so I can’t give a technical review. Wanted to warn others that this ships in it’s original box! I bought this as a Christmas present for my son, and it was waiting on our doorstep yesterday when he got home from school, so the surprise was ruined.
99.9% of everything I’ve ever ordered from Amazon comes in an Amazon shipping box. I order cases of food, and they even come inside another Amazon box. No such luck here.
I’m very dissapointed, and considering returning it just for this reason.

This keyboard is more than I expected. I purchased the keyboard for my twelve year old grandson for Christmas. I did not expect such a marvels instrument. My son, who is pianist, was amazed at its quality too.
Amazon, you do not disappoint your customers when we order not really knowing what to expect.

Fun – good sound quality

Our family already owns a $2800 Yamaha Clavinova Piano with weighted touch sensitive keys and sustain pedals that both my children use for in-home piano lessons (A very nice system) but it is not portable. I needed a keyboard to take with us to the grand parents for a Christmas recital and sing along and I am very pleased with this one. My 9yr old Son enjoys the added “fun sounds” and the “Grand Piano” mode is very close to the Clavinova and makes this purchase worth every penny of the $69 + $15 adapter price I paid. (Michigan ABC Warehouse sale price)
The fact that it also has real MIDI IN/OUT is great.. If you have not yet connected a MIDI keyboard to a computer/laptop you are in for a treat..my 9yr old (usually)prefers goofing with MIDI programs to his other video games.
I almost purchased a slightly cheaper CASIO model (which included a Stand and Adapter for $99) but my experience with great Yamaha stereo sound quality led me to purchase this model instead. A good choice.

Chinsy but okay

I bought this keyboard because mine broke and I needed a new one. I didn’t have a lot of money, so I just got the cheapest one that I could find. It’s not that great of a keyboard, but it gets the job done. It is fine for someone who just wants to practice at home, and is still trying to get the technique. As someone stated above, the keys are not touch-sensitive – whether you hit the key woth all your might or barely press it, the volume produced is the same.
For beginners, I guess this keyboard will be okay for a while. For people like me, it’s just good enough for now, until I save up a bit for a better one.

Sleek design, quality sound

I’ve owned my YPT-210 for two weeks now, after having purchased following a lot of research and consideration. This piano is ideal for any beginner wanting to learn the ropes of playing. As another reviewer points out, upon powering up, the piano reverts back to default settings – however, it is noted in the manual that if you simultaneously press down the lower volume key, and the power button, the piano will automatically start in silent mode. It’s a handy function, but buried in the user manual. Another reviewer mentioned the song list being on page 20 of the user manual being frustrating – there is a solution to this as well. If you register the piano on Yamaha’s website, you can download a ‘premium’ song book that is in pdf format. This thing has the full music sheets for all 102 songs programmed in the piano – a hefty 148 pages. I took the pdf on a flash drive to Kinkos, where they made a very professional-looking spiral bound copy for $19. (Well worth the investment).
Hopefully my review will help improve the experience of others, should they happen to glance over this. Other reviewers covered the pros and cons of this piano well, which ultimately led to my purchase decision, and I do not regret buying this piano. The piano looks ‘mature’ with it’s black color scheme (as opposed to the brushed steel-looking pianos you find elsewhere) and there are plenty of sounds and styles to toy around with. For $100, this piano seems like a bargain – avoid the amazon piano bundle – 5 minutes of research, and you’ll know immediately that the stand, and headphones, are garbage.

Yamaha YPT210 keyboard – good deal

Very pleased with this Yamaha keyboard. It is full size keyboard, and has a very good sound. It looks really nice with a purchased stand. Although it does not come with an AC adapter, it is easy to get one from other equipment, I got mine from an old Linksys Switch.
